Success Stories
Our very first success story by our very caring Director, as it was written in Here's the Scoop-Happy Endings No-Kill Animal Shelter Newsletter (Spring 2002) When we first started the shelter, I was fostering a beautiful white cat, Angel. She was rescued off the street, soon giving birth to three healthy kittens; one black ( named Ebony), one orange (named Joey) and one white (named Princess). Joey was the first to respond to my voice. Joey was special - had bright green eyes. He would sleep around my shoulders and neck, giving me a hug! I so wanted to keep Joey, but my husband said, "No more cats!". I took the Mom and babies for a showing. A lady fell in love with Joey, just as I had. The Mom and Princess were adopted as well as Ebony (to a home with another cat). I did their adoptions, but soon had to face doing Joey's adoption. I just wanted to keep him in the carrier and take him home, but knew he would be loved and happy with two other cats. I left with a lump in my throat and cried all the way home. I called the lady in a few days, hoping it was not working - but it was. A few months later I received a very special gift from Joey's family. It was a picture of Joey and one of the cats looking out a window watching a snowfall. (Picture shown above) A friend made a drawing of the picture for the company doing our office supplies. The picture became our logo. If you visit us at the shelter the picture hangs there with the caption, "The One That Got Away"!
